Yellow Leaves
Use sharp, sterile scissors to remove the brown and yellow portions of leaves as these are dead and will not come back. If the bamboo is planted in soil, remove it, rinse it thoroughly and place it in a vase of water rather than repotting. Avoid watering the plant with tap water, using room-temperature bottled water instead. Replace the water in the vase every seven to 10 days. Move the plant to a bright, draft-free area out of direct sunlight where the temperature will stay between 65 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit. Fertilize ailing plants only with fertilizer made specifically for water-based plants, and use it only according to the package directions. When in doubt, avoid fertilizing rather than risking over-fertilization.

Yellow Stems
Bamboo with yellow stems is likely to die in spite of your efforts. If the plant is part of an arrangement, remove it to avoid spreading the problem to other shoots. If you attempt to save the sick plant, cut the stem as far back as necessary to remove the yellow parts and follow the care instructions for yellow leaves.
