This knitted basket weave texture is made up of only knit and purl stitches, and so is an ideal pattern for beginner knitters to incorporate into projects.
You will need to cast on a certain number of stitches; think of a number divisible by 8, and then add 5.
E.g. 2 x 8 = 16, and 16 + 5 = 21 stitches. For the demo, this is the number of stitches I cast on. If you don’t add on 5, then the pattern would not be symmetrical.
Then the 8-row pattern is as follows:
Row 1: Knit all stitches
Row 2: Knit 5 *Purl 3, Knit 5
(repeat from * to end of row)
Row 3: Purl 5 *Knit 3, Purl 5
(repeat from * to end of row)
Row 4: Knit 5 *Purl 3, Knit 5
(repeat from * to end of row)
Row 5: Knit all stitches
Row 6: Knit 1, Purl 3 *Knit 5 Purl 3
Repeat from * until last stitch, then Knit 1
Row 7: Purl 1, Knit 3 * Purl 5, Knit 3
Repeat from * until last stitch, then Purl 1
Row 8: Knit 1, Purl 3 *Knit 5 Purl 3
Repeat from * until last stitch, then knit 1
And then you repeat that pattern as many times as you want.
Have fun ! Thanks for watching 🙂
