1. Mix together 1 part peat to 1 part perlite. Place the planting medium in a small plastic growing container with several holes in the bottom for drainage.
2. Take a 4- to 6-inch cutting from semi-hardwood part of the jasmine in the late summer or early fall. Semi-hardwood is wood that has sprouted in the current growing season, but has had some time to mature. Do this in the morning, and use pruning shears sanitized in household cleaner.
3 .Remove any flowers or buds from the cutting, using the pruning shears.
4. Remove the leaves from the bottom one-third of the cutting.
5. Dip the bottom of the cut stem in rooting hormone. You can buy rooting hormone from garden centers.
6. Place the cutting in the growing medium with two-thirds of the length of the plant sticking out of the growing medium.
7. Moisten the growing medium.
8. Place the container in a humid place either in a greenhouse sun room or under an upturned aquarium. Cover the cutting with a plastic bag if you don’t have a greenhouse or aquarium, and mist regularly. Do not expose the cutting to direct sunlight, but make sure it gets bright light.
9. Transplant the jasmine one or two months after growth begins. Do not place the jasmine outside, but instead transplant to a container and keep in a bright location. Allow the jasmine to grow in this container until the following spring, then transplant it in the garden.
