7 Things You Eat that Are a Lie!
Everyone loves tasty food — it’s perfectly normal to make our taste buds happy every now and then! But there’s a problem — how can we know that the foods we eat are indeed what we believe them to be?
Today, there are a whole lot of lies surrounding the foods we eat including how they’re made and how healthy they really are. There’s a good chance that you’ve been snacking on a mouthful of lies!
Still in doubt?
Well, here are 7 foods you eat that are a lie
1. Margarine
What’s your take on margarine? You probably see it as a healthy alternative to butter right? If yes, you’ve been enjoying a humongous lie — margarine can actually be a harmful to one’s health.
For the most part, the trans fatty acids which are used to increase the shelf life of this product can take a toll on your health — they’re a common cause of cardiovascular complications. On the flip side, butter is actually good for your health since it contains the right kinds of fat the body needs!
2. Pringles
Love the taste of Pringles? I’m pretty sure you do! Potato chips are tasty. However, you should know that the former parent company of this brand never considered the snack to be potato chips.
Moreover, they claimed that its potato content is just 42% and actually comes in form of dehydrated potato flakes. All in all, Pringles is not really a full potato snack.
3. Crispy Seaweed
Ever heard of crispy seaweed? This particular seaweed is popular in Chinese cooking but can still be enjoyed in the western world.
However, you may be tricked into eating cabbage disguised as crispy seaweed! In essence, you might end up eating deep-fried cabbage leaves seasoned in a similar way.
4. Pumpkin Spice
Are you a pumpkin spice lover? Pumpkin spice latte milkshake, pumpkin spice donut holes, pumpkin spice coffee — pretty sure you love these and more!
Well, what you should know is that the commercial stuff we find in stores disappointingly falls short of using real spices.
For the most part, commercial pumpkin spice flavoring is actually loaded with chemicals that mimics the original flavor of real pumpkin spice — there are no real spices in there!
5. Red Snapper
According a study from Oceana, the red snapper is one of the most mislabeled seafood product that’s sold throughout the USA.
The report claims that a fraudulent switch is likely to happen at point of purchase — red snapper could be substituted by up to 28 completely different species of fish! So there’s a good chance of eating a fake all these years.
6. American Cheese
That ooey-gooey goodness melted in a fresh-off-the-skillet grilled cheese made popular by Kraft Foods aren’t quite what they seem.
Those bright orange edible cheese slices are not actual cheese, both technically and legally. According to the FDA, American Cheese is made with less than 51% real cheese, as such, it can’t be referred to as cheese — pretty sure you get the point.
7. Naked Smoothies
Have you being drinking a lot of naked smoothies because you think it’s healthy? Well, sorry to disappoint you but these brand by Pepsico doesn’t live up to its claim.
Pepsico naked smoothie was advertised as containing no sugar but that’s far from the truth. These smoothies actually contain the same amount of sugar found in a can of Pepsi — now that’s a lot sugar, the drink isn’t naked after all.
