Do you know that some people have strange, yet super cool body features that might not be found elsewhere? It just seems like they’re the only ones who have it around the world. This might sound weird, but it’s very true.
They range from excellent physical features to those that could pass as superpowers!
In this post, we’re going to explore six of them, and I’m certain that they’re going to blow your mind.
Let’s dive in!
1. Golden Blood
Now, it’s not like the blood is literally golden, but its uniqueness is priceless — it’s entirely free from antigens. This rare feature was initially discovered far back in 1961, and up to this moment, only 40 people are known to have Rh-null blood. The best part? Their blood is perfect for any recipient, and 9 of them are extremely valuable donors.
2. Super Dense Bones
Scientists have since discovered mutations that lead to diseases accompanied by bone fragility and this was seen in the course of studying the gene LRP5.
Now, that gene isn’t the star of the show — there’s another one!
The other type of LRP5 mutation gives a person incredibly dense bones that are nearly impossible to break coupled with skin that hardly gets old. Cool right?
It’s also important to point out that there are drawbacks to this superpower. Doctors were unable to help an elderly patient replace his worn-out joint, and this was as a result of his incredibly dense bones.
3. Double Row of Lashes
Have you ever admired Elizabeth Taylor’s lush lashes? Well, her unique double eyelashes were as a result of a rare genetic disorder known as distichiasis.
Distichiasis doesn’t cause any kind of discomfort — it only adds to one’s beauty! However, there are few cases where the second row of the lashes can be very close to the mucous membrane of the eye, and this can cause discomfort.
4. Long Palmar Muscle
This muscle might not be useful in modern life, but it happened to be the legacy of our tree climbing ancestors.
Trying to figure out if you have it? Well, you can check! Start by placing your hand palm on a flat surface. Then touch your little finger and thumb, and lift them a little. If you happen to see a ligament on your wrist, you’re a pro tree climber! But who would climb trees in 2017?
5. Extra Ribs
This body feature is typically found in women. These additional ribs are located in the cervical spine area, and their sizes range from small growths to full ribs. It’s good to point out that this condition rarely affects a person’s health, but sometimes they grow so big and cause discomfort.
6. Little Need for Sleep
The DEC2 gene is responsible for this amazing feature — people with the gene can restore strength faster than you can imagine. Popular people with this trait include Margaret Thatcher, Winston Churchill, Salvador Dali, and Nikola Tesla. Moreover, Scientists from the University of California concluded that this lucky set of people could carry out all the same tasks in less time.
So there you have it! Now it’s your turn — what’s your special feature? I’ll be thrilled to find out!
